Titan: Largest fruited of available red
varieties. Fruit ripens second through fourth week in
July. This very productive cultivar has performed well
in the Northeast and in replicated trials in several
areas of the Northwest. Fruit is very large, conically
shaped, with a mild flavor. Attractive berry for
restaurant or specialty market sales. Titan has shown
susceptibility to *Phytophthora root rot and is
therefore not suited to wet or poorly drained soils, and
over-winters poorly on wet soils due to the Phytophthora
issue. Hardy to Zone 5 with proper soil
selection. back to top

Encore: Unique in that it ripens the
majority of its fruit in late July and early August
(follows Titan). This variety is an excellent choice for
growers wishing to bridge the gap between traditional
summer fruiting reds and Heritage. Encore is very
productive (only slightly less so than Titan) with
conically shaped fruit processing a well-balanced
pleasantly mild flavor and excellent firmness. Encore
has outstandingly consistent large fruit size
through-out its harvest season; (fruit size does not
decrease with continued pickings). Moderate tolerance to
Phytophthora root rot. Hardy to Zone 5. back to top |
